The Tower symbolism
A tall stone tower on a rocky peak is struck by lightning. Its crown-shaped top is blown off, flames burst from the windows and two people fall headfirst toward the ground. Twenty-two flames, echoing the number of Major Arcana cards, fall through the dark sky. The structure looked solid, but it was built on false foundations.
The descriptions on this site refer to the Rider-Waite-Smith deck (1909), illustrated by Pamela Colman Smith and designed with Arthur Edward Waite, which is the reference for most modern tarot. Other decks may show different imagery with a similar meaning.

In the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn's system, which shaped the Rider-Waite-Smith deck, it is attributed to the Hebrew letter Peh and to Mars, giving it the element of fire.
